I brought visitors to Dooney Rock on Saturday 30/4/11 having boasted about its beauty. I was appalled to find that it was extremely badly littered with paper, bags, bottles, cans, toilet rolls, food containers, in fact with anything that could be thrown away. The fact that such a beautiful site which is or sorry, was, such a tourist attraction should be left in the state it was is unforgiveable. Shame on those responsible for the litter and shame on Coillte, who, I believe may be responsible for its upkeep. Why not put litter bins in place as we all know that the majority will bring their litter home but there will always be a minority of ignorant moronic persons who act in a completely anti social manner.
Why, in the name of God, can tourist sites not be regularly visited by those responsible for their upkeep, as is the case with Waterways Ireland and in particular Haughton's Shore, near Ballinamore, Leitrim. That place, which has toilet and shower facilities for persons cruising the Shannon Erne waterway, is cleaned on a daily basis.
It would seem that Dooney Rock is used for the purpose of outdoor drinking sessions and maybe its time to install cameras to combat the persons who litter.

I noticed the farmhouse in the background of image one. Is the old well still in use or just an attraction for tourists?

This is really a good look from above. I was wondering if the tomb is restricted in some manner, or if nearby farmers farm right up to the tomb?

Oh man, the beauty of the surrounding landscape from atop the Cairn is magnificent. You do get terrific perspective of the size of that thing.
